Less is best!

Never use more than you have to—either in the intensity of the colors you choose or the number of products you wear. Many steps in applying makeup can be consolidated or eliminated without affecting your overall makeup look in any way.

Frequently a salesperson at the cosmetics counter insists that you need an absurd number of products to be properly and attractively made up. Yet a more complicated routine doesn’t mean you will look any better. If anything, a more complicated makeup routine can mean more chances for mistakes, which can cause you to look overdone—along with wasting your valuable time and money.

Speaking of doing too much, so-called foundation primers, eyeshadow bases, blemish cover-ups, eyeliner sealants, and color correctors—to name just a few—can be completely unnecessary. More often than not a foundation, concealer, and pressed powder are all you need. All the other extras tend to complicate the process of applying makeup, and also make it more time consuming. When you test specialty makeup products, be sure they are providing the benefit claimed on the label and that the extra step makes a difference for you.
