A good woman is a wondrous creature, cleaving to the right and to the good under all change

—ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON

chapter twelve makeup your mood

Too often women get a bum rap for being moody. Upbeat, serious, silly, sad, sexy, stubborn, gung ho – and that’s just me on any given day! I wouldn’t be me without my varied moods, and you wouldn’t be you without yours. All hail moodiness!

We need to think of our diverse emotions as a positive aspect of our feminine nature. After all, our shifting experiences and feelings are what give texture and excitement to our lives. Rather than dismiss them, let’s embrace our moods and enhance our looks accordingly! By varying how we use makeup, we can better express our feelings, set free our fantasies, and show the world what multifaceted, fascinating creatures we are.

With our increasing responsibilities, women today don’t have enough opportunities to just be playful. Makeup is an accessible, safe vehicle for exploration and a powerful channel for selfexpression. So let’s bring back that free-spirited way we used to think about makeup when we were young and experiment avidly with products and looks.

By being playful with cosmetics, we not only change our appearance, we shift how others perceive us. I say keep ’em guessing! Plus, switching up your makeup can help support taking a different approach to a challenging day or night. Are we talking empowerment through eyeliner? You bet.
