First and foremost, you need a mirrored compact face powder. It’s great to take a moment in the middle of a hectic day to pause and appreciate your femininity. Take hold of that compact, gaze at yourself lovingly, and repeat your mirror mantra while powdering any shiny spots.

You know I’m not fond of all-day lip products, so keep your tinted lip balm, lipstick, or gloss at the ready. Slick on a fresh pop of color after coffee breaks and meals.

Cotton swabs are a must for cleaning up smudges or smears, and blotting papers are great for zapping any excess shine before you powder.

Table Tricks

A shout-out to Emily Post and my grandmother: It’s poor form to touch up your makeup while at the dining table. If you need to redo your lipstick or powder your nose, please do so in the powder room

That said, I admit I don’t always follow Grandma’s advice. I’m a lippy sneak, and you can join my tribe. Secretly remove your lip color from your bag under the table, and dab a bit onto your pinky finger. Casually put your elbow on the table and bring your hand up to your chin, listening intently to the conversation. Now start to subtly tap your lips with that potent pinky as you nod to whatever’s being said. People won’t notice a thing except your charming smile.
