A deep-plane face-lift simply refers to how deep under the skin the surgeon works to perform any given face-lift procedure. Although it is similar to the SMAS-Lift, the deep – plane face-lift goes even deeper. It involves lifting and repositioning the various layers of the face—skin, fat tissue, muscles, and other structures—as a single unit rather than separating and lifting them individually. Because of its complexity, this procedure is not widely performed.
