I feel strongly that anecdotal information is correct when it points to the benefits of using a gentle toner or moisturizer that contains 1% to 2% salicylic acid (BHA) in a base with a pH of 3 to 4 for rosacea as well as other skin types. Salicylic acid is an exfoliant that helps to remove the built-up layers of dry, flaky skin on the face caused by sun damage or skin disorders Further, because salicylic acid is related to aspirin (both are salicylates), it can also have anti-inflammatory properties on the skin, reducing redness and swelling. There are those on the Internet who disagree with my conclusion about this, but supportive research is lacking in either direction. For that reason, because it takes experimenting to find out what works, I encourage you to give this step a try.
