I’ve been watching and evaluating other makeup artists and their eyeshadow techniques for years. Though there are myriad alternatives, eyeshadow design is usually built on an application sequence that allows you to create a flow of colors in either one, two, three, or four steps. The four steps involve applying a succession of colors that can be anything you want them to be. But if your goal is a classic makeup application, the colors proceed gradually from light to darker. The basic technique is to apply the lightest shade either just on the eyelid or all over the entire eye area (including the crease and up under the eyebrow) and then to place each progressively darker shade in a more specific section of the eye area, such as the crease and/or the back corner of the eye.
