While thin lips may not seem like a cosmetic issue, for some women looking for perfection fuller lips are considered more attractive. Moreover, as you get older the lip area begins to recede, becoming thinner and narrower, or may fold in on itself, with obvious lines extending outward around the perimeter.
Aside from dermal fillers (described above), one of the more interesting methods for augmenting the lips is to surgically advance the lip forward via incisions placed inside the mouth. Fat implants or collagen injections (see the Dermal Fillers section above) may then be positioned under the lining of the lip to add additional plumpness. Neither collagen nor fat is permanent, however, and the procedure must be repeated periodically to maintain results.
A lip lift is a technique that surgically lifts the corners of an aging mouth to eliminate the pronounced droop and unhappy facial expressions that often develop with advancing age. Cutting away small diamonds of skin just above the corners of the mouth raises the border of the lips into a slight smile.
If thin lips have an unfashionable aspect, it isn’t hard to imagine that overly full lips can also be viewed as too much of a good thing. In lip reduction, a small section along the top lining of the lip is surgically removed to narrow the lips to the desired proportion. The small scars on the outside of the lips are often barely noticeable, though it all depends on how you scar.
